ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/30 sec, Canon EOS 7D, EF-S10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USMWhen we were in the Smoky Mountains, we went to Ripleys Aquarium. I hadn't really tried to photograph inside an aquarium before, but it is quite hard! The low light and glass makes it tricky to get a clear shot.
I had brought my 'nifty 50' me so I could keep the shutter speed up in such low light. This photo isn't exactly clear, but not too bad for my first attempt. In the future I'll need to increase the ISO a bit.

Stephen Bader Here is another shot from the Smoky Mountains. I did a small amount of HDR from a single exposure using Topaz Adjust, and then faded it a bit in Photoshop.
I know I've been bad about posting lately. I'll try to be better about it.

Stephen Bader I haven't posted an HDR in a while, so I decided to try one out today. I used Photomatix, and it has been so long since I used it that I forgot how to get the output I typically like. I really need to buy a copy of Topaz Adjust.
I hope you enjoy!

Stephen Bader I've always liked the look of moving water during a long exposure. The cloudy, cotton candy look really adds visual appeal to an image in my opinion.
I shot this fall from the side, and after I took this photo, I moved to the rock you see in the bottom right of the image. This was a huge mistake, because the rock was covered in algae and I feel just after I put all my weight on the rock. My tripod and camera came crashing down, and my brand new 7D has a few battle wounds so I'll never forget this day. My tripod is also very scratched, but luckily the lens hood saved my new 10-22 lens!
So, there you have it. The last waterfall picture I took while in the Smoky Mountains (but probably not the last one you'll see from the trip).

Stephen Bader We were only able to visit the Smokys for two days, and on the second day it rained all day long. We did a driving tour of a part of the park called Cades Cove. It's the most visited part of the park, and we were able to visit it on the first day it opened this year.
Cades Cove was actually a community which lived in the Smokys before it was turned into a national park. Some of the historic structures from the community are still there. I hoped to get more shots of Cades Cove, but the weather was not cooperating. The drive is very pretty though, and this is the best area of the park to spot wildlife.
This shot was enhanced a little in Lightroom because the sky was grey and dreary. I know the sky is a little extreme now, but I like the look.
I geotagged my photos from the trip, and you can click here to see exactly where this photo was taken.

Stephen Bader I've been bad about posting daily lately, and I'll try to do better from now on. These last few weeks have been very busy at work, and I was also out of town for a few days. I did manage to take some photos this weekend though, so I should be able to keep this blog pretty busy for at least a few weeks.
Todays photo is of a stream in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We only spent two days in the park, which wasn't nearly enough time to see everything. The place is amazing and I'd highly recommend a visit. It's truly a photographers dream.
I had always wanted to take pictures of steams, but never had a chance until I went to the Smokys. What do you think of this one? I have several more coming over the next couple of weeks.
